Now that your winter vacation is coming to a close, we are looking ahead to the New Year for LostChangeFound at Babcock. First, as many of you know, LCF is our youth group name and is based on a student chosen scripture as a representation of who we are at Babcock church. For more, read Luke 15:8-10.
Sunday school for the coming year will continue like in the Fall and we will resume classes on January 11th. Middle school will meet in the green room with Cathy and high school will meet with Josh and Harry in the gym. We will not have Sunday school on January 18; church is at 10 am that morning with breakfast and a congregational meeting afterward. Grab a big table in fellowship hall after church that day and hang out with your pals.
We will be holding a special confirmation class for any of you interested in confirming your faith in Jesus Christ. In our church, confirmation is a statement of faith made by an already baptized person and bestows upon the confirmed full membership in the church. Talk to your parents about confirmation, what it will mean for you and whether you are ready to take this next step in your faith journey. Pastor Janet Jones will prepare interested young people by way of an 8-week “confirmation intensive” series later this winter. Please speak to Cathy or Pastor Janet if you or your parents have questions or you are ready to participate in confirmation.
Our annual service projects are coming up. Souper Bowl of Caring will be held on (you guessed it) Super Bowl Sunday, 2-1-09. Not only will we hope to watch the Ravens become Super Bowl 43 champs, we will be collecting money following both church services that morning to donate to a local food bank. This year we plan to participate in the “service blitz” prior to the big day.
Our Sunday evening fellowship time is great fun for all who attend. Now that winter is here, we will be planning our annual Laser Tag outing. Stay tuned for details. In the meantime, we will continue to meet in the gym on Sunday evenings at 6:30-8:30 pm for fellowship, fun, prayer and discussion, also beginning on 1-11-09 (we will not meet on 1-4-09). See reverse side for the schedule of evening activities for January and February.
Lastly, middle school gang—the Presbytery of Baltimore is planning a Middle School Retreat at Camp Wometo Feb. 27th to March 1st. This will truly be a good time for all. Stay tuned for details, but in the meantime, speak to your parents about chaperoning!
